"Stay in the Circle of Trust"

Films: The Devil Rides Out (1968)

Alias: Hypnotic spirit, Baphomet (the Goat of Mendes), Demon Tarantula, the Angel of Death

Type: Mystical

Location: Haunted Home/Civilized Area

Height/Weight: Ranges from that of a large dog to that of an average human.

Affiliation: Evil, Neutral (Angel of Death)

Summary: The world could really do without any more Satanic cults. They're always preaching away about demons and evil beings that in truth are out for themselves above all else. Even worse, some folks can't help but be dragged into this sort of tomfoolery. And sadly, it's sometimes because those cultists are convinced that Satan needs a girlfriend.

History: A Devil cult located in the English lands, this group led by the fanatical Mocata served the Sabbatic Goat himself, Baphomet. The cult targeted a young woman as a ritual sacrifice to their deity, but a brave soul in the form of Nicholas, Duc de Richleau was intent on stopping it. Now if only Mocata didn't keep sending demonic entities to ensure his plan worked.

Notable Kills: Nothing special.

Final Fate: The hypnotic spirit's futile efforts send it away, Baphomet's session with the cults is interrupted by a thrown object, the tarantula is dowsed and burnt away by holy water, and the Angel of Death, shortly after some divine intervention turns back time, takes Mocata for summoning him/her.

Powers/Abilities: The spirit can hypnotize victims with his gaze, while the Angel of Death is obligated to take a life whenever he/she enters the mortal world.

Weakness: None of the demonic forces can tolerate weapons/defenses of the divine. This includes crosses, magic circles, and holy water.

Scariness Factor: 3.5-These guys are bad news no matter what, especially Baphomet and the Angel of Death, but the former looks a tad bit ridiculous with his smiling goat head, while the latter is more an enforcer of cosmic justice in the right circumstances. Everyone else is okay, even if the tarantula has some cheap blue screen going for him.

Trivia: -The character Nicholas, Duc de Richleau was based on a Dennis Wheatley character known for tacking the occult in eleven books. This film was based on his second venture of the same title.

-Baphomet is the name of a demonic figure that the Catholic Knights Templar were accused of worshipping, and whose more popular visage of a goat-man came to prominence in the 19th century.
